Invalid Data Value Stonecutter Next To Regular Stonecutter.png

Invalid block state stonecutters are stonecutter items with a facing_direction block state other than 0 or 2 prior to Preview 1.20.40.20 or a cardinal_direction block state besides north in current versions. For most of its obtainable version range, stonecutters with a facing_direction of 4 (west) or 5 (east) can be differentiated from regular stonecutter items by their inventory appearance having a different facing direction than normal. Stonecutters with a facing_direction of 3 (south) are an unobservable discontinued feature. Starting in Preview 1.20.40.20, all stonecutter block states have an identical facing direction in item form, which also makes west and east-facing stonecutter items unobservable from that version onwards.

Obtaining

Obtaining an invalid block state stonecutter requires a stonecutter block facing south, west, or east. Whether this is done by crafting a stonecutter and placing it down or by finding one in a village does not matter. Move any stonecutters that you have in your inventory inside a chest, and then mine the placed stonecutter. It will have a different facing direction from the default of north.[1]

From beta 1.10.0.3 to 1.10.1, the "Experimental Gameplay" toggle has to be enabled in order to obtain stonecutters and, by extension, invalid block states on their item form.

Trivia

  • When invalid block state stonecutters are placed onto regular stonecutter stacks, all of the items turn into regular stonecutters. This also works the other way around.
