The block of gold was discontinued during one version range in Classic. After that version range, the block of gold is recontinued.

Obtaining

The block of gold was added in Classic 0.0.20a (Classic 0.0.20a_01 is the first archived version after Classic 0.0.20a, which is missing). The block of gold is obtainable in the creative classic inventory up to Classic 0.0.23a_01.

In Classic 0.24_SURVIVAL_TEST, the player is put into survival mode and loses access to the block of gold through the creative classic inventory. Saving was readded in Classic 0.25 SURVIVAL TEST, which is the start version for when the world can be updated. The block of gold is discontinued from Classic 0.25 SURVIVAL TEST to Classic 0.25_05 SURVIVAL TEST (only Classic 0.25_05 SURVIVAL TEST is archived). The block of gold is not obtainable in this version range and it is only possible to have in the world if it was previously placed in earlier classic versions.

The block of gold is recontinued in Classic 0.26 SURVIVAL TEST, when gold ore was changed to drop 1-3 blocks of gold instead of gold ore. This change made the gold ore item discontinued. The block of gold has been obtainable ever since. In Classic 0.28 the player is reverted to creative mode and the block of gold is obtainable in the creative inventory again. This works through the late classic creative versions from Classic 0.28 to Classic 0.30-c. The gold ore continued to drop 1-3 blocks of gold in Classic 0.30-s and Indev 0.31 20100124-2119 to Indev 0.31 20100125. In Indev 0.31 20100128, block of gold no longer drop from gold ore but are still obtainable in the Indev Item Chests. In Indev 0.31 20100129, blocks of gold were given a crafting recipe of 4 gold ingots in a square for one block of gold. In Indev 0.31 20100130, this was changed to 9 gold ingots for a block of gold, a recipe which remains the same up to 1.21.6 Release Candidate 1 (present).
