Candle 3.png

All variants of candles, in block and item form were not obtainable in survival in 21w19a and 21w20a (1.17 snapshots). They were craftable in survival from 20w45a to 21w18a (1.17 snapshots). The crafting recipe, the only method of obtaining candles, was removed in 21w19a because Mojang did "not feel that they are at the quality we want for Part 1 of the Caves & Cliffs release."[1] However, this decision was later reverted. The candles were still possible using the Mojang "Caves & Cliffs" datapack in 21w19a and 21w20a.

Obtaining

From 20w45a to 21w18a (1.17 snapshots), the candles can be crafted. The crafting recipe for a plain candle was a string on top of a honeycomb. The recipe for any dyed candle was the combination of a candle with the respective dye.

Variants

There is one undyed candle variant and 16[2] dyed variants of the candle.

The constructable discontinued block variants include 1-4 candles in a block. Lit and waterlogged block states that can be set to true or false (but not both true at the same time). A candle can also be placed in cake and lit or unlit. This is a total of 238 constructable discontinued blocks.[3]

Statistics

The placed, breaked, crafted, picked up, and dropped statistics for candles are unobtainable without having the candle and therefore are also discontinued. The statistics exist for the undyed variant and the 16 dyed variants.
