Due to a bug, large fern items were obtainable from 18w43a through 18w43c (1.14 snapshots). Since 18w49a (1.14 snapshot), the item has been obtainable in village chests, making this a recontinued feature

Obtaining

Shearing

Using shears on large ferns from 18w43a (1.14 Snapshot) through 18w43c (1.14 Snapshot) caused two large fern items to drop, which also allowed for very easy infinite duplication.

Taiga Village Chest

From snapshot 18w49a through 25w21a (present) large ferns are obtainable through taiga village chests.
