Terrain Discontinued Feature 

This page covers discontinued terrain generation. These features' discontinued aspect is conditional. In order for these features to truly be discontinued certain conditions have to be met.

Before the Combat Update in release 1.9, the end was completely empty besides the main island located around 0,0. However, even the center End island did not generate in two versions.

Obtaining

Outer Islands

From Beta 1.9 Pre-Release 4 to 1.8.9 the End dimensions outer islands, located around 1,000 blocks away from the center island, would not generate. This made the entire dimension, with the exception of the center island, nothing but air and the void.

Center Island

From 12w07a to 12w07b (1.2 snapshots) the center End island would not generate any End Stone or Obsidian Pillars (Obsidian, Bedrock, and End Crystals), leaving the 5x5 obsidian platform that the player spawns on. This allows players to have free control over the center End island, but the Ender Dragon still spawns posing as a risk to the player. This only occurs if the player has not entered The End prior to entering The End in these versions making this a Potentially Dangerous Version.
