Minecraft Discontinued Features Wiki:Projects/Automatic Version Pages
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
This is a wiki project that aims to automatically create version tables from a central list as opposed to the current hard coded method. We are using Template:AutoVersionTable to accomplish this goal. The automatic tables will make it easier to change a method across many version pages at once and will standardize the format of how the tables are generated. Editors who are interested should add their name to the participant list below and join the Community Discord.

Aims
- Automatically generate version page tables from a central list
- Move all DF methods into this central list
To-do
- Switch version pages to use Template:AutoVersionTable (List of current progress at #wiki-to-do on Discord)
- Add all DF methods from version pages into Template:Java Methods List for tables to be created from
- Create template with tabber for easier use on version pages
Complete
- Add documentation to allow upkeep of templates and modules necessary for table creation
- Module comments enabled on our wiki by User:RheingoldRiver after submitting help request on wiki.gg website
- Add Minecraft Wiki links to versions on generated tables
- Improve error handling on Module:AutoVersionTable so that one invalid version doesn't break whole table
- Add server-only versions to Module:Java Edition Version/SAMVID for comparison
- Update Module:Java Edition Version/SAMVID with new versions up to 1.21.4 and newly archived versions (Thanks User:Magikarp129!)
- On Module:AutoVersionTable, sort the methods by the SAMVID of their end version before building the table
- Add display version option to Module:AutoVersionTable
- Allow templates to be used in notes at Module:AutoVersionTable
- Use stable sort by end version on Module:AutoVersionTable so methods don't reorder on different tabs
- Make recontinued and removed versions sortable
- Switch Module:Java Edition Version/SAMVID to use timestamp name scheme in Indev/Infdev to give consistent names when new uploads are discovered
- Asked on MC Wiki Discord if they can also move Indev/Infdev pages to share the consistent naming scheme (forum post)
- This forum post succeeded with unanimous support! Compiled and executed a list of moves with help from Omniarchive
