Beds have a block item that is normally unobtainable. Upon placement, this item always places a half bed facing north regardless of any surrounding blocks. Beds placed using this item cannot be slept in.

Obtaining

Silk Touch

From Pocket Edition v0.12.1 alpha build 1 to v0.12.3 alpha, mining beds with a Silk Touch-enchanted tool causes the bed block item to drop.
