Barrels are only supposed to stay closed - however, permanently opened barrels can be made as both a block and item in the current version of the game.

Obtaining

Block Form:

Obtaining an open barrel is simple, as it only takes a couple steps.

  1. First, place a barrel.
  2. Then, hold right click while not looking at the barrel, and then look at the barrel with it held.

If you follow these steps, the barrel should stay open.[1] It can be left as is for a open barrel or mined to get an open barrel as an item.[2]

Another way to obtain an Open Barrel is to set up a redstone machine that pushes the Barrel with a sticky piston while the barrel is being opened by a player. Do note that when using the second method, it can crash or delete/corrupt a world/server.

Item Form:

From Bedrock Edition beta 1.11.0.1 to Bedrock Edition beta/preview 1.20.60.23, open barrels could be obtained in item form by mining an open barrel.

Additional Information

  • It shows as closed when dropped on the ground.
  • Placing this item variant results in the barrel being closed.
