Monster spawners are not intended to be obtainable as an item in Survival mode, but there have been a few glitches that allowed the player to do so. Upon placement, this item creates an empty monster spawner.

Obtaining

Mining

In betas 1.2.3.3 and 1.2.5.0, it is possible to obtain monster spawners by mining them using any pickaxe. In addition, you do not need Silk Touch on your pickaxe.

Explosions

From beta 1.2.3.3 to 1.6.1, destroying a monster spawner with an explosion causes it to drop as an item.

Gravity Block Conversion

Another way Monster Spawners can be obtained is via gravity block conversion. This method can be done until 1.16.100.
