Falling Block Transmutation, often referred to as Gravity Block Conversion is a powerful glitch where falling blocks are converted into random blocks. This glitch only produces blocks, not items. This glitch is theorized to allow any block in the game to be obtained, however, more testing is needed to confirm this. This glitch is dangerous, as it can cause blocks to be dropped that crash the game or corrupt the world. The method was patched in 1.16.100.

Method

The player needs to kill the Ender Dragon and get an end gateway for this glitch. Falling blocks must then be dropped through the end gateway. There are multiple methods to do this, usually requiring breaking the bedrock around the end gateway. After dropping the falling blocks through the end gateway, the player must then restart the world. After the world has been restarted, the player may then go through the end gateway and pick up the converted blocks.

Obtainable Blocks

This is a list of known discontinued blocks that are able to be obtained with this glitch. There are more that are obtainable, but not yet documented.

Risks

There are many risks of doing this glitch due to the nature of it.

  • Sometimes, a block will be converted into a client crash block. These take the form of a dirt block with the word "Update" on them. Picking them up and looking inside your inventory will cause a game crash. These can be avoided by restarting the world after going through the end gateway. If the block is still there after restarting the world, it is safe to pick up.
  • There is a chance that a block will be converted into a server crash block. These will instantly crash the server and client on load, even if you don't pick it up. If a restart does not get rid of the block, you will have to load a backup or use a third party program such as Universal Minecraft Editor to remove the block.

It is highly recommended to keep a backup before you start and every time you get a block you want to keep.

Trivia

  • Walls are the most common block to get from this glitch. This is due to walls having many blockstates, so the glitch is more likely to pick a wall.
  • Blocks with no blockstates are the hardest to get.
  • Blocks can only be sent through the end gateway every 20 gameticks, which is equivalent to 1 second. When a beam is being emitted, you cannot send another block through.
  • Every unique gravity block that is dropped through the portal will result in another unique block being dropped. If you drop 9 different gravity blocks through the portal, you will get 9 unique blocks from it.
  • The type of gravity block dropped through the portal does not affect what block it is converted to.
