To do: Missing version range and unconfirmed if method actually works for this item

A Silk Touch pickaxe is needed for this method. In 1.0.0, start mining with your cursor on flowing lava, and drop an item. You should start mining the lava. Wait for the lava to break, and it will drop as an item.

Mining Progress Transfer

Mining progress transfer is the process of replacing a block on the same tick it is mined, resulting in the replaced block being dropped instead, and can be done from b1.2.0.2 through b1.6.6.0.[1] To perform this, a block that is quick to mine and easily replaceable, such as snow, should be replaced with lava while holding left click with a silk touch tool. There are also specific farms and setups that can be followed:

Gravity Block Conversion

The flowing lava item can be obtained via gravity block conversion, which can be performed from beta 1.16.0.52 through beta 1.16.100.52.

Trivia

  • In some verisons, the icon for lava in the hotbar will appear with a blue tint
  • It acts identically to a regular lava bucket.
