Every item in Minecraft has a number that is the limit of how much should stack together. For each item, it is either 1, 16, or 64. Throughout Minecraft's history, there have been several methods that have allowed the player to breach these intended limits. For example, whenever an update decreases an item's stack size previous items will carry over into newer versions.

This method allows the player to duplicate features which may be considered cheating. Perform at your own risk.
In version v0.8.0 alpha on multiplayer, rejoining as guest would make some items have 99+ of items in stack.[1][test]
