Oak Slab.png

When wooden slabs were first introduced, they were metadata variants of the normal smooth stone slabs, and as such broke the same. In later versions, they were replaced with the oak slabs currently in the game.

For a period of time, these were named "Fake Wood Slab", and were later renamed again to "Wooden Slab". Petrified oak slabs are converted to regular oak slabs in Previews 1.21.0.23 and 1.21.0.24.

Obtaining

Crafting

Starting in v0.3.0, wooden slabs could be crafted. These were the petrified oak versions, and from v0.7.3 onwards can no longer be crafted.

Gravity Block Conversion

Petrified oak slabs can be obtained via gravity block conversion. This method can be done until 1.16.100.

Trivia

  • The petrified oak slabs share a lot of properties with stone slabs, such as not being flammable and needing a pickaxe to mine. This is due to the fake slabs being a data value of stone slabs.
  • Mining any placed petrified oak slabs after v0.7.2 will result in a regular wooden slab being dropped.
  • While sometimes referred to as alpha slabs, this terminology is flawed. This terminology comes from players, where slabs other than the conventional stone slabs were not implemented until Beta 1.3, when sandstone, wooden (petrified oak) and cobblestone slabs were added, despite Beta 1.3 obviously releasing after the conclusion of the Alpha era. Although it is true that petrified oak slabs came from the alpha versions of pocket edition, it is highly recommended that these slabs be referred to as petrified oak slabs instead of "alpha slabs" as to avoid all such confusion.
