When wooden slabs were first introduced, they were metadata variants of the normal smooth stone slabs, and as such broke the same. In later versions, they were replaced with the oak slabs currently in the game.
For a period of time, these were named "Fake Wood Slab", and were later renamed again to "Wooden Slab". Petrified oak slabs are converted to regular oak slabs in Previews 1.21.0.23 and 1.21.0.24.
Obtaining
Crafting
Starting in v0.3.0, wooden slabs could be crafted. These were the petrified oak versions, and from v0.7.3 onwards can no longer be crafted.
Gravity Block Conversion
Wooden slabs can be obtained via gravity block conversion. This method can be done until 1.16.100.
Trivia
- The wooden slab shares a lot of properties with stone slabs, such as not being flammable and needing a pickaxe to mine. This is due to the fake slabs being a data value of stone slabs.
- Mining any placed wooden slabs after v0.7.2 will result in a regular oak slab being dropped.
