Terrain Discontinued Feature
This page covers a terrain discontinued feature. What makes these features discontinued are the required conditions that have to be met for this discontinued feature to be obtained.

There were three version ranges where caves would not generate within the world. From version rd-132211 to rd-161348 cave generation had not yet been coded into Minecraft, from version Infdev 20100327 to Infdev 20100616 caves had not been re-implemented from Indev to fit the new infinite terrain generation, and from version 12w07a (1.2.1 Snapshot) to 12w07b (1.2.1 Snapshot) caves did not generate, leaving only lava pools and underground structures.

Obtaining

Obtaining this discontinued feature is quite simple, all the player needs to do is either create a world in the specified versions or generate new chunks in those versions. This has the benefit of making spawn proofing easier if the player intends to build a mob related farm.
