In 18w45a when a pillager patrol would spawn, the captains would be holding a banner missing the border layer. The banner itself is not unobtainable, as washing the banner in a cauldron can also remove the border, however patrol captains will not be able to pick these up. The patrol captain can be a pillager or vindicator, and can either be riding a ravager or not riding a ravager. Until 1.21 Pre-Release 1, the ravager variant could only be in the Overworld because stacked mobs could not enter portals due to a bug.[1]
