Bordertorches.png

From Beta 1.9 Pre Release 6 to 14w17a (1.8 snapshot), torches could be placed on the "wall" behind the first world border. Going past 29,999,840 blocks in 13w36a to 13w36b will crash your game and cause your world to be unplayable until updating to a later version.

Note that the placement of torches can be tricky and the game might kick you for 'invalid placement' if you pass the 30 million block mark.

Obtaining

From Beta 1.9 Pre Release 6 to 14w17a, the player can try to place a torch or Redstone torch on a block that is situated next to the world border (where you are not supposed to place a torch). This will result in the torch going onto the world border. These torches act similarly to update suppressed torches.
