Wiki Logo Discussion!

We are going to establish a logo for the wiki which will appear in the top left corner of the screen and as the tab indicator symbol. The plan is to go for a concensus not a poll. If the results are divided then there will be a anonymous ranked voting poll with all available icons. The final decision/poll date will be 6/30/2020. Please comment on your opinion on different icons and if you want add your own picks for icons. Poll is open due to no consensus. Vote here! https://forms.gle/xg9jwhpCNZZrMPtr8 vote will close on 7/3/2020 12:00 am MDT. EDIT: Winner of poll is the Ultra Discontinued Block by Slushy - will be added soon.

Bedrock

  • One of the top wanted discontinued blocks because of its use and fame. This was why it was the first page made of the wiki. A bit dark/grayscale though, I would like some color to the logo --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Barrier

  • A thing that shouldn't be acquired and has a no symbol like we shouldn't be able to acquire these features on the wiki. The actual item currently can't be obtained though, only the block could be misleading. The symbol also might be mistaken as an error symbol. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Green Shrub

  • Some color and discontinued. Not very exciting or flashy and can not be kept in most recent version though. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Missing Texture

  • A symbol seen on some of the unaquirable blocks/items that represents it pretty well. The black and purple looks sort of ugly in my opinion though, guess it was only meant for debugging. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Command Block

  • Don't really like this option, makes it seem like we're cheating/using commands. Command block icon would suit a command wiki better in my opinion. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Illusioner

  • An unused mob in Minecraft. Is planned to be used in the future however which will probably require us to change it then. The symbol is also very busy/detailed making it difficult to discern in the small tab icon. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Spawner

  • Another highly desired item due to the ability to create spawners anywhere. The spawner is kind of dark/lacking color though. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Creeper Spawn Egg

  • Nice color, spawn egg is another useful and wanted discontinued feature. The icon could also be confused for cheating creative mode though plus the method to get this item is quite controversial as it requires creative mode glitch which some thing is cheating. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:49, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Missing Texture with Yellow Barrier

  • Custom designed by PuffingFishHQ for the wiki: "red (barrier) had blended in too much" --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 03:19, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Ultra Discontinued Block

  • Custom designed by Slushy for the wiki: combo of a green shrub, end portal frame, missing texture block, spawner, command block, and bedrock --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 02:36, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Discord?

This discussion is for discussing whether there should be a dedicated wiki discord or if we should remain on PuffingFishHQ's server for now. Just edit this section to add your opinion and you can comment on others' opinions.

I feel like the wiki is gaining traction some what so I feel like the wiki at some point might need it's own space for discussion if that's now or not I don't really know --Bayugoon (talk) 22:10, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
Having a separate discord would mean more order. It will be depressing at first because it's just a few people but who knows, someday glitch hunting might become a more popular subject. Don't underestimate the "catch em all" allure and when that clicks people will want a dedicated place to discuss it. --Freedom (talk) 08:02 14 September 2020 (GMT+2)
Offical StrawPoll: https://www.strawpoll.me/21007850/r --Bayugoon (talk) 02:11, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Should probably mention here that there is now a discord for the wiki https://discord.gg/n7v7pgE --Bayugoon (talk) 19:30, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Exploits

While most of the wiki is about getting different items, blocks and entities I feel like having an exploit section could be helpful to get discontinued features. Duping can help gain items to do the negative item method in 1.8, breaking end portal frames can allow you to create a 6*6 end portal (https://youtu.be/2dqU9ZxDo4E), generating dungeons above ground prior to 1.13 and many other things. --Bayugoon (talk) 15:04, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

  • For exploits it should be: if it can make something discontinued it's allowed, otherwise not. So the Java Edition:Chunk Resetting is definitely allowed, Java Edition:Update Suppression is allowed, and even Java Edition:Item Duplication Methods should be allowed because it allows a discontinued amount of nonrenewable resources in worlds. But an exploit like 8x nether portal & ender pearl exploit wouldn't be allowed because there is nothing discontinued about it even though reaching the world border is cool. Maybe a category could be made to group all of the exploits/methods from the discontinued features too. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 22:52, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Needs Testing Category

I added the Need Testing Category for pages that need testing for version ranges or has information that hasn't been tested, if you find a page that needs testing but doesn't have this category please add it so we can make sure are information is as accurate as possible. I will try my best to find as many pages that need testing as possible and add the category as well! --Bayugoon (talk) 21:01, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Thank you!T he Category:Needs Testing is very useful! Also, thanks to Favorito who's spent a lot of time adding pages into the category. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 06:38, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Discord Bot Dashboard

Now that my bot can connect to multiple discords I need to make a dashboard for it but I no good at front end so if you are or know someone who might be interested let me know on my talk page or ping me in the wiki discord my ign is Bayugoon#9592 https://discord.gg/n7v7pgE --Bayugoon (talk) 21:29, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

What about Orphaned Pages?

So, now that the wiki is expanding, Is there any way to find "orphaned" pages, as in, pages without links linking to them?

-FavoritoHJS (talk) 19:13, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Good question, check out this special page:[1]. Right now the answer is not really mostly because of the main page linking to every page. --Bluecrab2MC (talk) 19:59, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Day Extravaganza 2

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the 2nd Wiki Day Extravaganza 10/10/2020 (going far into 10/11/2020). We got lots done! Here are the stats :D

Stats

  • Lasted 18 hours 30 minutes

Changed Infobox

we changed the infobox template to be dynamic so we no longer need 8 infobox templates XD the new way to use the template is like this:
{{Template:Discontinued Feature Infobox
|image = Sponge.png
|caption = A sponge item viewed before 14w25a (1.8 snapshot)
|startversion = Classic 0.0.19a
|endversion = Classic 0.0.23_01a
|startversion2 = Classic 0.28a
|endversion2 = Classic 0.30 Creative
|startversion3 = Indev 0.31 20091223-1
|endversion3 = Indev 0.31 20091223-2
|startversion4 = Indev 0.31 20100113 (Creative)
|endversion4 = Indev 0.31 20100113 (Creative)
|startversion5 = Indev 0.31 20100124
|endversion5 = Indev 0.31 20100128
|startversion6 = Beta 1.6 Test Build 3
|endversion6 = Beta 1.6 Test Build 3
|startversion7 = 11w49a
|endversion7 = 11w49a
|startversion8 = 14w25a
|endversion8 = present
}}
pretty similar but a bit different, if the image field isn't valid it will display the missing texture texture --Bayugoon (talk) 19:17, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Day Extravaganza 5

Thanks to the outstanding participation in the 5th Wiki Day Extravaganza 9/1/2021 (going near the end of 10/1/2021)! This WMEDA lasted the longest we've ever seen going over 24 hours for the first time! (can we even call it a day marathon anymore?) Plus getting a record 563 edits. A great day to bring WMEDA into the new year!

Stats

  • Lasted 37 hours 30 minutes (with a break) (Record!)

Wiki Day Extravaganza 6

Thanks for joining the 6th Wiki Day Extravaganza 20/1/2021 (going into 21/1/2021)! WMEDA has now been a tradition that has lasted for half a year which is incredible. This is also the WMEDA in partner with the Bedrock Wiki, which have been added to the statistics. I think we were a little worn out from the last WMEDA that lasted nearly 2 day event so no new records but we still managed to organize all the version lists by end version and work on the timeline spreadsheet!

Stats

  • Lasted 18 hours
  • Approximately 79 Edits

Visual Editor

Can we add Visual Editor? It don't remove the other editor and this one is much better to use when trying to do small or quick changes and is also easer for most people to use. --Gtbot2007 (talk) 23:37, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Comment: Okay I wanted to make a pros vs cons for this:
Pros:
  • Easier for newcomers
  • Table editing much easier
  • Just added feature not removing any functionality
Cons:
  • Formatting underneath from visual edits can be off
  • Adds extra links after each section
  • Accidentally clicking the visual edit when I want edit source always is annoying and it takes a while for it to load
Personal conclusion: I would be okay with adding visual editing but if possible I'd like the edit buttons for sections to remain just for edit source and at the top I think it'd be better if edit source was left of visual edit instead of right like the default.--Bluecrab2MC (talk) 01:10, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

I agree too that we should add visual editor. Porktuga (talk) 15:15, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

I believe a visual editor is a necessity, especially for people who don't understand wiki formatting or have the time to. Plus clicking "show preview" after every edit gets annoying. I personally would use both editors regularly. User: Left-Eye (talk) don't know the time, 20 May 2021

I think it would be super nice for me because tables in text form just confuse me -Scam.net (talk) 22:40, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

Wiki Day Extravaganza 11

Thanks for joining the 12th Wiki Day Extravaganza 31 July, 2021! We were very distracted during this WMEDA and somehow ended up watching Dhar Mann videos because of Kream. But the version range on the silk touch method for IDV log items was discovered during the event. (These stats are very rough estimates)

Thanks for joining the 14th Wiki Day Extravaganza 30 October, 2021! This was our first WMEDA with the new namespaces for Bedrock & Console Edition on our wiki! Unfortunately, this WMEDA was poorly attended possibly due to our Minecraft Live viewing event that also happened in October and the fact this was held on Halloween weekend. The mod team has worked on several changes to improve for WMEDA #15!

Wiki Day Extravaganza 15

Thanks for joining the 15th Wiki Day Extravaganza 13 November, 2021 (going into 14 November, 2021)! This was our first themed WMEDA with the theme "New Namespaces!" We were able to accomplish a lot of technical fixes for errors that had risen from the namespace split and created new pages on the bedrock edition namespace. Additionally, we got a 1 minute guest visit from RaysWorks during the WMEDA! Also, Bayugoon and molneya were able to get the MCDF Bot running on the Discord during the event. Here are the stats:

Wiki Day Extravaganza 16

Thank you everyone who joined the 16th Wiki Day Extravaganza 11 December, 2021 (going all the way to 15 December, 2021)! This WMEDA's theme was WIP, where a focus was cleaning up many WIP section and WIP pages. We got a new record length, more than doubling the old duration! This was due to User:NameBrainDead who put his alt "WMEWA" into the voice chat AFK to keep it going, especially over night. Our high number of new articles is mainly thanks to User:brickdylan's incredible work on creating the Bedrock Edition pages! The high file count is mainly thanks to User:Kiz3r who made many amazing renders for the infoboxes and elsewhere! The record high edit count is mainly thanks to User:Bayugoon's hard work categorizing files! Here are the stats:

Stats

  • Lasted 90 hours (Record!)
  • 1117 Edits (Record!)
  • 22 New Articles
  • 3 New Users
