Java Edition:Blocks Past the World Border

In newer version of Minecraft, you can't place blocks farther than 30 million blocks away. While it is possible to force cobblestone to generate by placing water and lava near the border it is not possible for any other block.

Obtaining

If you try to go past 32M block you get stuck in a glitched position forever until updating.

Beta 1.8

Blocks past 30M no longer have collision, you cannot place or break blocks and walking past 30M will cause you to fall through the world.

Your game will crash if you go past 29,999,840 blocks in 13w36a to 13w36b and you will be stuck in a crash loop until updating.

13w37a

The wall is changed from 2^31 blocks away to 30M blocks.

14w18a to Present

From 14w18a to 25w21a (present), the world border is between 29,999,983 and 29,999,984 in the positive/negative X/Z directions. The player has limited options to place or destroy blocks beyond the world border:

1. +/- 29999983 x/z is the last block inside the world border and the player can place and break blocks at this distance like normal.
2. If the player gets beyond the world border, they can place any block one block outside the world border. This is at +/- 29999984 x/z.
3. The player's options to create blocks beyond this distance are very limited to certain blocks that can grow/spread out naturally. This includes water/lava flowing (which can create stone, cobblestone, obsidian, etc.), saplings growing, chorus flowers growing, and many others. However, these methods are limited in the distance they can spread from the world border and cannot be used to get blocks that require player placement such as diamond blocks.
4. Players can use explosions to destroy blocks beyond the world border. This is limited by the explosion range of the explosive or even if you can get explosions beyond the world border, the furthest they can destroy is +/- 29999999 X/Z blocks out and no further. This method cannot destroy blocks that are explosion resistant.

Bed Placement

Before 1.18 Pre-release 1, beds can be placed towards the world border and half of the bed will be placed outside the world border.

Dragon Egg Teleportation

Before 1.18 Pre-release 1, dragon eggs could teleport beyond the world border when right-clicked near the border.
