Incompatible Mace Enchantments.png

Currently, density, breach, smite, and bane of arthropods are mutually exclusive enchantments for the mace. However, only bane of arthropods and smite were incompatible when maces were first introduced. Therefore, many incompatible enchantments were obtainable prior to this change.

Obtaining

While these enchantments were not mutually exclusive, they could be applied to the same mace or enchanted book using an anvil or an enchantment table. There are many possible orders and levels of enchantments and the other enchantments: wind burst, fire aspect, unbreaking, mending, and curse of vanishing can also be applied.

Breach and Density

From 24w13a (1.20.5 snapshot), when the Breach and Density enchantments were added, to 24w18a (1.21 snapshot), the Breach and Density enchantments were not incompatible with each other. They were made incompatible in 24w19a for parity reasons, as they were mutually exclusive in Bedrock Edition.[1]

Breach/Density with Bane of Arthropods/Smite

From 24w13a (1.20.5 snapshot) to 1.20.6, Breach was compatible with Bane of Arthropods or Smite. Additionally, Density was compatible with Bane of Arthropods or Smite. Since this version range overlapped with Breach and Density being compatible, it is possible to get a mace or enchanted book with breach, density, and smite or breach, density, and bane of arthropods.

Sharpness

From 24w18a (1.21 snapshot) to 1.21 Pre-Release 3, Maces can be enchanted the Sharpness enchantment in an anvil. This was removed in 1.21 Pre-Release 4, making Sharpness Maces discontinued.
