This article is about Invalid Data Value Lit Furnaces. For non-invalid data value variant, see Lit Furnace.

Invalid Data Value Lit Furnaces are a type of lit furnace with an invalid data value. This method relies on endermen holding invalid blocks as lit furnaces use data values to store what direction they are facing. This allows for the data values of 2 to 5. The lit furnace item was removed in 15w49a.

Obtaining

From Beta 1.8 Pre-release to Beta 1.8 Pre-release 2 ;), an enderman could be used to pick up a lit furnace block. Each direction is a separate data value. Once the Enderman has picked up the block, the enderman must be loaded in versions 13w16a to 15w32c to set the HealF tag correctly so it won't die on spawn. Then, it can be updated to 15w31a to 15w47c, where the enderman can then be killed and the invalid data value lit furnace can be obtained.
