Invalid Data Value Vines.png

Invalid Data Value Vines are a type of invalid data value item. Due to this item not showing its data values in-game, it results in the data values being able to be duplicated by first throwing normal vine and then picking them up with an invalid data value in your inventory. This can also be done with other data values, meaning that you can lose the thrown data values if you combine them in this way. If you want to collect all 15 variants, you must put them in a chest first before picking new data values up.

Obtaining

From Beta 1.8 Pre-release to Beta 1.9 Prerelease 5, vines must be grown in different orientations and then collected using shears. Each direction has its own data value, so to gather the specified DV the vines must be in the orientations as shown below. As 2 vines cannot be placed in the same block, to get multiple vines in the same block they must be placed above another vine in a different orientation such that when it grows downwards it will create a block with multiple vines.

Note that it is impossible to get DV 0 as all vines must have side vines in these versions.
