Java Edition:Vine on Invalid Block
Vines normally require a full block to be supported, but in some cases they may grow on invalid blocks.
Full Block Chest
From Beta 1.8 Pre-release (vines added) to Beta 1.9 Pre-release 5, due to the fact that chests were full blocks, vines could grow on, and be supported by chests. This included the bottom or side of a chest

Campfires
From 19w02a to 24w38a (present) vines placed on a solid block below a campfire or soul campfire have the chance to grow on the campfire.
Chunk Resetting
This can be created using chunk savestating, though this is restricted to chunk boundaries.
Update Suppression
As with most block discontinued features, this can be created using update suppression onto any block.
