A Directly Observable Discontinued Feature is a feature whose discontinued state is rendered in some form to the player.

Current features are categorized by their observability in the latest version, deleted features by their observability in the last version they exist in, and recontinued features by their observability in the latest version they are discontinued in.

Specific Definitions

A discontinued feature is directly observable if some discontinued property is directly rendered to the player that differentiates it from non-discontinued features. Many features have ways to render things in the game, including but not limited to:

  • For blocks, most blocks render a texture. The texture may be different depending on the block state of the block.
  • For items, they render a texture and a count for each item stack. Damaged items will render a durability bar. Hovering over an item in a container with an empty cursor will render a tooltip. This tooltip will include the item's name. Some items include additional information in the tooltip such as dye color (leather armor), banner patterns, signed book information (author, generation, and title), enchantments, shulker and bundle contents, attack damage and speed, potion contents, attributes, and more.
  • For entities, most entities render a texture. The texture may be different depending on the entity's state.
  • For players, some information is rendered in the HUD, such as health, armor level, hunger level, and experience level.
  • For world features, some biomes render specific particles or tint the fog and sky in a certain way, features may be seen beyond the world border, or a feature may be rendered on a map.
  • Several blocks and entities can open a GUI when interacted with that may render additional information, such as villager trades.

Rendering only provided through the usage of debug features (the F3 debug menu, advanced tooltips, etc.) is not considered eligible for direct observation. Features only visible through debug rendering are indirectly observable.
