Invalid Data Value Crops are crop blocks with data values that are above the normal value of 7. These crops would exist in a world until deletion in 14w26a (1.8 snapshot).

Obtaining

You must use preserved data value transmutation on a wheat crop to obtain these data values. The easiest way to get these crops is to first hydrate a farmland block, which will set that block's data value to 7. Then, break it and replace it with a sapling. Make sure a block is 1-3 blocks above the sapling to prevent the sapling from growing. Over time, the sapling will continue to increase its data value from 7 to 15. After waiting a while, replace the sapling block with a crop (till the dirt below first) and the new crop should have the old "missing texture" texture. Since you have absolutely no idea what data value you got, it is recommended to use a custom texture pack to be able to see the different data value textures. If not using a custom texture pack, after a while you should see the chair and table test texture, indicating you got 11 and 12 respectively. If you don't get the data value you want, you can replace the sapling over the crop and wait longer to increment the data value more. If you want an extremely long time, you can be pretty much certain you have a data value of 15. If a mistake was made, or you got to a data value that is above what you want, you can place a torch down which will overwrite the data value to something below 4, after which you can try again. Furthermore, because these invalid data value crops are still crops, they can be used for plants touching liquids it should be noted that these are a temporary discontinued feature as the water randomly ticks off the crops.

Textures

In Infdev 20100327, data values 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 15 have the old "no texture" texture. data values 11 and 12 have the texture for a chair and table, which could mean Notch was using them to test those new textures, although unlikely. As more textures were added to the texture atlas, the texture of each data value changed over time.

Properties

Because of the conservation of block data values at this time, breaking and replacing a fully grown wheat crop (data value 7) will allow you to get infinite wheat and seeds quickly as the crop will be instantly grown once you place it. Breaking a crop data value with values between 8-15 will yield between 0 to 3 seeds, with no wheat.
