This article is about the entity. For related features, see Zombie Horse (Disambiguation).

Zombie horses were added in 13w16a (1.6 snapshot) but have never been available in survival Minecraft, except in 3 April Fools' snapshots.

Obtaining

20w14∞ Dimension

Warning: Game Crash
This feature can crash your game. Perform at your own risk.

Zombie horses spawn naturally in some random biomes in random dimensions in 20w14∞. They spawn as passive mobs, thus they can only spawn on top of grass blocks with adequate light level. Spawning only happens every 20 seconds if there are no more than 10 passive mobs loaded.

There's a few known dimensions where Zombie Horses do spawn. Firstly, the biome "_generated:1369173509" in dimension "zhf$". The entire dimension is one biome, it only spawns Zombie Horses and there's the right amount of light for them to spawn. Additionally, Grass Blocks generate naturally in this dimension, making the Horses spawn basically everywhere. There's also the "_generated:1913198024" biome in dimension "zz" around 381, -411. Another is biome "_generated:773938501" in dimension "q3" around 1357, -1126. These coordinates seem to be consistent throughout seeds.

The spawned horses are always wild and have a 20% chance of being a baby zombie horse. Baby zombie horses are a temporary discontinued feature but can also be put inside a boat to get an oversized mob in a boat after the baby grows up, which will prove it was a baby even after it has grown up.

22w13oneBlockAtATime Spawn Egg

In 22w13oneBlockAtATime, there is a 1/996710 (≈0.0001%) chance that an enderman will spawn holding a zombie horse spawn egg. If that enderman is killed, the spawn egg can be obtained and used to spawn zombie horses.

23w13a_or_b Votes

The April Fool's snapshot 23w13a_or_b introduces a plethora of ways to obtain every block and item in the game, including the zombie horse spawn egg. These include:

  1. The egg_free vote, when applied, will allow chickens to lay any block or item in the game (without NBT). This means all chickens have the chance of laying the zombie horse spawn egg.
  2. The fish_anything vote, when applied, will allow any item from the creative menu (not the operator tab, with NBT) to be fished (combine with the buff_fishing vote to greatly increase fishing speed). What this means is that there is a chance that the zombie horse spawn egg can be randomly fished.
  3. The give_item vote, when applied, will give every online player a random amount of any block or item in the game (without NBT), meaning that you could have the zombie horse spawn egg randomly given to you.
  4. The replace_items vote, when applied, will replace all items in online players' inventories with any block or item in the game (NBT of the original replaced item is preserved). This allows for the zombie horse spawn egg with Any NBT.
  5. The replace_loot_drop vote, when applied, will replace all loot drops of a random block or item with any block or item in the game (if the original item that is being dropped has NBT, it will be preserved). This is also another method for the zombie horse spawn egg with Any NBT.
  6. The replace_recipe_output vote, when applied, will replace all recipes for the given item with any block or item in the game (NBT is preserved if the original output item is supposed to have NBT.) This is yet another method for the zombie horse spawn egg with Any NBT.
  7. The villager_gem vote, when applied, will replace all emeralds in all loaded villager's trades with any block or item in the game (without NBT). This means that you can get a villager that trades the zombie horse spawn egg, allowing for infinite amounts of the zombie horse spawn egg.
  8. The basalt_gen_replace, cobblestone_gen_replace, obsidian_gen_replace, and stone_gen_replace votes, when applied, replace the block of their respective fluid interaction with any block in the game, allowing for blocks in invalid positions and the placement of operator-only blocks such as the Command Block.

Taming

Zombie horses can be tamed in 22w13oneBlockAtATime and 23w13a_or_b, which is normally impossible.
