Warning: Requires External Editing
This method requires external editing which can corrupt your world. Perform at your own risk.

Many of the features documented on this wiki are only available in April Fools' versions, and as such may not be loadable or compatible with older world saves. This page is meant to provide info on each April Fools' version and how to load old worlds in them.

Loading April Fools' Versions

Due to April Fools' versions containing features and mechanics not shared with the base game, there have been multiple ways in which Mojang has tried to prevent loading old worlds in these versions. Despite their best efforts, there are ways to load old worlds in these versions.

Beta 1.4

Beta 1.4 can be loaded at any time without any external editing. However, the only aspect that makes this version discontinued, the locked chest, can only be acquired if the computer time is set to April 1st (the year doesn't matter).

2.0

2.0, also known as "Minecraft 2.0", can be loaded at any time without any external editing.

15w14a

15w14a, also known as "The Love and Hugs Update", can only be loaded in singleplayer if the world folder is renamed to existence.af15.

Servers can load older worlds into this version without issue.

1.RV-Pre1

1.RV-Pre1, also known as the "Trendy Update", can be loaded at any time without any external editing.

3D Shareware V1.34

3D Shareware v1.34, also known as "Minecraft 3D", can only be loaded in singleplayer if the world folder is renamed to shareware.

Servers can load older worlds into this version without issue.

Do note that due to most worlds having a high playtime (more than 5 in-game days, or 120,000 ticks), the restrictions of an expired demo mode will be enforced, so one cannot build, interact with or break blocks, open inventories, and more without using world save insertion to regenerate the level.dat file.

20w14∞

20w14∞, otherwise known as "The Infinity Snapshot" or the "Ultimate Content Update", can be loaded if you do one of the following:

  • The level.dat file is renamed to special_level.dat
  • World save insertion is used to generate a new special_level.dat

Servers can load older worlds into this version without issue, but this will result in the generation of a new special_level.dat, so the world seed and other data within the level.dat file may be different in this version.

22w13oneBlockAtATime

22w13oneBlockAtATime, also known as "The One Block at a Time Update", can be loaded using world save insertion. World save insertion must be used again when updating worlds out of 22w13oneBlockAtATime.

23w13a_or_b

23w13a_or_b, also known as the "Vote Update", can be loaded using world save insertion. World save insertion must be used again when updating worlds out of 23w13a_or_b.
