Old Blending Chunk F3.png

When chunk blending was added in 21w39a (a 1.18 snapshot) to allow for a smooth transition between old terrain and new 1.18 terrain, a new line was added to the F3 debug screen that could appear when standing in old chunks.

Obtaining

To obtain chunks with this flag, one can do two things. The easiest is to update any pre 1.18 world to 21w39a and beyond, as all pre 1.18 chunks will always be marked. The second way is to update across a generation change post 1.18, as older chunks will be blended to ensure that new biomes don't leave highly visible borders. The list of these generation change versions can be found below:

Generation Borders
Start Version Reason
21w39a (1.18 snapshot) First version to support chunk blending
22w11a (1.19 snapshot) Added the Deep Dark biome
22w14a (1.19 snapshot) Added the mangrove swamp biome
23w12a (1.20 snapshot) Added the cherry grove biome from the 1.20 experimental data pack

Visibility

This line will only be present on the F3 screen if you are in a singleplayer world. Therefore, this feature is unobservable on multiplayer worlds.
