Java Edition:Fortune and Silk Touch Tool
Fortune and Silk Touch are intended to be mutually exclusive enchantments. However, there are two methods that can be used to apply both enchantments to the same item.
Obtaining
Enchanting Table
In Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4, the enchanting table can apply Fortune and Silk Touch to the same tool from the normal enchanting process as they were not yet mutually exclusive. The enchanting table can enchant pickaxes, axes, and shovels in this way.
Enchanting in this version is quite different compared to modern enchanting.Enchantments will be re-rolled each time the item is inserted or removed from the GUI slot, and can be enchanted with up to 50 levels. Performing an enchantment will deduct the full amount of levels required, not just the 1 to 3 in modern versions. A fully powered table also requires 30 bookshelves. This can be accomplished with two rings of 15 bookshelves, one at the same Y level as the table, and the other directly above.
It is also possible to find the seed of the Random object that determines the enchantments applied using the OldEnchantCracker tool by Captain_S0L0. Once the seed is known, one can then manipulate the process to obtain the exact enchantments one desires, making the enchanting process far more efficient. More information is available on the tool's GitHub page.
In addition to Fortune and Silk Touch, Efficiency and Unbreaking may also be applied as well, up to Efficiency 5, Unbreaking 3, Fortune 3 and Silk Touch 1, which is the best possible combination of enchantments for all possible tools and materials.
Grindstone Enchantment Duplication
Using grindstone enchantment duplication from 24w10a to 24w11a (1.20.5 snapshots), it is possible to transfer enchantments from one item to another while bypassing compatibility checks for the enchantments on the items. By creating two of the same tool, one with Fortune and the other with Silk Touch, the grindstone can copy the enchantment from one to the other, creating a tool with both Fortune and Silk Touch. This method will work for all pickaxes, axes, shovels, and hoes.
Mechanics
When a tool has both Silk Touch and Fortune, Silk Touch takes precedence over Fortune, so mining blocks will use the Silk Touch based loot drop. When applying additional enchantments in an anvil, the tool most be placed in the slot to the left to retain the two enchantments, as all enchantments in that slot are not checked unless they are modified by the second slot's item. If one attempts to apply either Fortune or Silk Touch from an item in the second slot, it will conflict with the current enchantments and not be applied. Other enchantments may still be applied normally, e.g. Mending.
