The slime was discontinued from Alpha v1.2.0 to Beta 1.2. During this version range, slimes would not spawn. This also meant the slimeball was discontinued during this version range.
Obtaining
The slime could spawn from Alpha v1.0.11 to Alpha v1.1.2_01 then be updated into the version range it could not spawn it. The slime could despawn easily but keeping render distance to short while approaching the slime's unloaded chunks can decrease the chance this will occur. Slimes have spawned in every version Beta 1.2_01 and later.
Variants
Slimes can and could spawn in sizes 0, 1, and 3, and killing a size 1 or 3 slime will cause it to split into multiple size 0 or 1 slimes, respectively.
