Nether Wet Sponges are wet sponges placed in the nether. In 19w36a (1.15 snapshot), it was changed so that wet sponges placed in the Nether instantly dry out. Wet sponges placed before this version will not dry out.

Obtaining

From 14w25a when wet sponges were added until 19w35a, the player could place wet sponges in the Nether. The feature can technically be obtained even before 14w25a by transmutating a sponge in the Nether to data value 1, which was the data value used for wet sponges.

Handling

Unlike many discontinued blocks, wet sponges can be updated by placing or breaking blocks next to them. However, you cannot move wet sponges with a piston or slime block. This is similar to water in the Nether. If the player tries to use a sponge on water in the Nether it will take the water and dry. This enables the ability for a continuously running clock with water 8 blocks away from the sponge so that the sponge keeps drying the water (except the source) then drying itself just for the water to return.
