Java Edition:End Portal (Item)
In the pre-reupload version of Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3, the developers left debug items in the players inventory that appeared every time they spawned.
Obtaining
Debug Inventory
This method only works in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3-1, before the reupload of this version. Every time a player dies or starts a new world in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3-1, they spawn with a debug inventory that Mojang accidentally didn't remove. This inventory includes 64 enchanting tables, 64 bookshelves, 64 end portal frames and 64 end portals. The End Portal items and End Portal Frames may have a texture unfamiliar to some.
Warning
Do not hover over the end portal item in the player's inventory, from Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3 to Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3-1 it will crash the game. Once updated to Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3-2 or later the game no longer crashes when hovering over the end portal item.
Impossible Configurations
These are configurations of end portal blocks that cannot created by end portal frame item and bedrock removal.
- Beyond the World Border: The End Portal Item can be used to put an end portal at exactly X/Z 30,000,000, the furthest block that can be interacted with in these versions.
- Giant Portals: Because end portals require a frame, they can not be placed next to one another without a gap. This can be avoided with the end portal item though because you can just place them all next to one another. The largest possible using just frames is 6x6 on a chunk boundary using chunk savestating.
- Next to Unplaceable Blocks: If the player doesn't have bedrock as an item then they could use this item to place a portal directly next to bedrock, impossible using the end portal frames
