During 19w11a and 19w11b, farmer villagers sold suspicious stew with an incredibly short duration.[1]

Obtaining

Expert level farmer villagers would sell these suspicious stews for one emerald each. These stews had an incredibly short duration, which was due to an error where they set the duration in seconds instead of ticks. Since these are sold by a villager, this villager can be updated, and traded with in later versions. Below is a list of the effects and durations:

  • Blindness: 0.3 Seconds
  • Jump Boost: 0.4 Seconds
  • Poison: 0.7 Seconds
  • Saturation: 0.4 Seconds[2]
  • Speed: 0.4 Seconds
  • Weakness: 0.35 Seconds

Testing

Short duration suspicious stew is an indirectly observable discontinued feature. This means it can be differentiated from other suspicious stew without destroying it (eating it). To test this, the player can use the shift + double click method. This will transfer only the suspicious stews with identical NBT data between the container and the player's inventory. In suspicious stew's case this means that only suspicious stew with the same effect and duration will transfer. This alone lets the player group all the suspicious stews into groups of the same kind but they can only be determined by eating one in a group or eating all the others and then using the process of elimination to prove what type it is. This lengthy process can be avoided however using external software or commands on a copy of the world to determine the effect and duration.

  2. Due to Saturation being an instant effect, this duration is actually still possible, however, it is not still possible from a villager trade
