Saturation suspicious stew was supposed to have a short duration since it is an instant effect. However, there were several occurrences of saturation not being instant throughout the 1.14 snapshots.

Obtaining

Shipwreck Loot

From 18w43a through 1.14 Pre-Release 1 the suspicious stews in shipwreck supply chests had a 1 in 6 chance to have the saturation effect. The durations of these saturation suspicious stews would range from 140 - 200 ticks (7 - 10 seconds).[1] This was changed in 1.14 Pre-Release 2, where the saturation stew in the shipwreck supply chest will now have a range of 7 - 10 ticks (0.35 - 0.5 seconds).

Crafting

Crafting a suspicious stew using a dandelion or a blue orchid creates a saturation effect suspicious stew. From 18w43a through 19w14a the duration of this crafted saturation suspicious stew would always be 100 ticks (5 seconds).[2] This was changed in 19w14b to be 7 ticks (0.35 seconds). From 23w51a to 24w09a crafting would yield saturation suspicious stew with a duration of 140 ticks (7 seconds).[3]

Mooshrooms

Feeding a brown mooshroom a dandelion or a blue orchid, and then milking it with a bowl creates a saturation effect suspicious stew. From 19w08a through 19w14a the duration of this crafted saturation suspicious stew would always be 100 ticks (5 seconds). This was changed in 19w14b to be 7 ticks (0.35 seconds).

Trading

From 19w12a through 1.14 Pre-Release 1 villagers had a chance for one of their expert level trades to be a saturation suspicious stew. During these versions, the duration of this stew was 160 ticks (8 seconds). This was changed in the next snapshot so that saturation suspicious stews from villagers would always have a 7 tick (0.35 seconds) duration. Prior to 19w12a, in 19w11a and 19w11b, the duration of the saturation suspicious stew from a villager trade would actually still be longer than the current villager trade, at 8 ticks (0.4 seconds). That duration however is still possible in the current version through shipwreck supply chests.

Testing

Long duration saturation suspicious stew is an indirectly observable discontinued feature. This means it can be differentiated from other suspicious stew without destroying it (eating it). To test this, the player can use the shift + double click method. This will transfer only the suspicious stews with identical NBT data between the container and the player's inventory. In suspicious stew's case, this means that only suspicious stew with the same effect and duration will transfer. This alone lets the player group all the suspicious stews into groups of the same kind but they can only be determined by eating one in a group or eating all the others and then using the process of elimination to prove what type it is. This lengthy process can be avoided however using external software or commands on a copy of the world to determine the effect and duration.

Consumption

The 10-second suspicious stew is the food that grants the player the most hunger out of any other food in the game. The food allows the hunger bar, saturation bar, and health bar to be fully healed from starving at half a heart and still have plenty more duration leftover. This can be used as a player's food although it can not be overstacked and so will take many more inventory slots.
