Stray Jockey.PNG

From 16w20a (the first version with strays) to 1.10.2, a stray riding a spider could spawn. This jockey could only be in the overworld because stacked mobs could not go through portals.[1] However, this feature was recontinued with powder snow and then eventually possible in the 2022 april fools snapshot, 22w13oneBlockAtATime.

Obtaining

Spawning

From 16w20a to 1.10.2, any spider spawned in a cold biome with direct sky access could become a stray jockey instead of a normal spider jockey. The biome can be Snowy Tundra, Snowy Mountains, Ice Spikes, Frozen River, or Frozen Ocean. There is a 0.8% chance that any spider spawned will be a stray jockey. The spider can be only spawned from a spawner, or using a spawn egg, as natural spawning couldn't spawn jockeys at the time due to bug.[2]

Podwer snow conversion

From 21w05a to 1.21 (present) by putting the skeleton in powder snow for 45 seconds, it turns it into a stray. Thanks to this mechanic, you can do the same thing to spider jockey. Powder snow needs to be placed 1 block above where the spider stands otherwise if lower, it will take damage. Before 21w13a Powder Snow also dealt damage to strays so the powder snow block should be removed after the conversion to prevent their death.

Warning: April Fools'
This feature requires the usage of April Fools' versions, often requiring file renaming or file deletion to load. See the help page for information on loading these versions.

In the April Fools' version 22w13oneBlockAtATime, the player can pick up nearly any entity to create mob stacks in any combination. This powerful method also allows for stray spider jockeys to be obtained.
