Terrain Discontinued Feature
This page covers a terrain discontinued feature. What makes these features discontinued are the required conditions that have to be met for this discontinued feature to be obtained.

The vault is a block that can be found in trial chambers. Its function is to eject random loot[1] when unlocked by the player using a trial key. Vaults always spawn in the trial chambers structure, though through two methods, it was possible to have trial chambers that spawned without vaults.

Obtaining

24w05a Addition

The vault was added and started generating in trial chambers in 24w05a (1.20.5 snapshot). Before this, as the vault did not exist, trial chambers would spawn without vaults. This means that from 23w45a to 24w04a (1.20.5 snapshots), it was possible to obtain this discontinued feature.

Downgrading

Since vaults were added in 24w05a, downgrading a vault before 24w05a would cause all vaults to be set to air, as the game did not recognize it as an item. This state will stay even after upgrading back to at least 24w05a.

Provability

Many discontinued features, such as this one, are hard to prove as discontinued. You could easily break the vault[2] in current versions of the game. There are two methods to prove that this is discontinued.

World Seed

If the same world seed is put into a new world from 23w45a to 24w04a, observing a trial chamber will show that is has no vaults.

Past the World Border

If a trial chamber without a vault is generated (or created in the case of downgrading) past the world border, it can be proven discontinued as blocks past the world border is not possible in the versions that trial chambers could spawn without vaults.

  1. From a specific loot table.
  2. The breaking time is 250 seconds.
