When updating to 14w10a (1.8 snapshot), the naming convention for a player's data changed, changing player_name.dat to UUID.dat. This also broke the owner of pets, prior to this version, pets like dogs and cats would have the Owner tag set to the player name, and when updating to 14w10a they would get the tag OwnerUUID but it would be assigned to the wrong UUID, making the wolf/cat a pet owned by someone else.[1]
Notes
You can breed the wrong-owner dogs/cats with normal dogs/cats. The dog's collar changes to orange on later versions but you can dye it back to whichever colour you want.
