In the April Fools snapshot 23w13a_or_b it is possible to get pieces of armor or gold tools with negative durability.

Obtaining

In snapshot 23w13a_or_b if you vote for the midas touch vote, all items would be converted to gold. Pickaxes, hoes, swords, axes, shovels and pieces of armor (elytras are not included), can be converted to their golden state. To get a gold piece with negative durability we should have damage to the current tool/armor higher than its durability in the gold state.

Example

A netherite pickaxe has a durability of 2031, while a gold pickaxe has a durability of 32. If our netherite pickaxe loses more than 32 durability, for example it has a durability of 1998 if we activate midas touch then the pickaxe will turn into a negative durability golden pickaxe.

Combining

If we combine 2 items with negative durability then their durability can be reduced further until the total damage is equal to -2,147,483,647, at which point the damage overflows and becomes 0.
