The Uncraftable Potion is a potion item with no NBT tag to specify the potion type. Two closely related items, the Splash Uncraftable Potion and Lingering Uncraftable Potion, can be brewed from the potion. Uncraftable potions were first obtainable in 16w38a (1.11 snapshot) following changes to potions.

Obtaining

NBT Removal

From snapshot 16w38a (1.11 snapshot), through 1.15.2 uncraftable potions could be created by NBT removal. Shift-clicking a stacked item into an enchanting table would remove all NBT data during these versions.[1] In order to do this the player would first need to overstack potions. This also worked with splash and lingering potions, resulting in splash uncraftable potions and lingering uncraftable potions respectively.

Fishing

Uncraftable potions would be received through fishing during two version periods due to two unrelated bugs.[2][3] This worked in 16w38a (1.11 snapshot), and again in 17w47b and 17w48a (1.13 snapshots)

3D Shareware

Warning: April Fools'
This feature requires the usage of April Fools' versions, often requiring file renaming or file deletion to load. See the help page for information on loading these versions.

In the April Fools version 3D Shareware, uncraftable potions, splash uncraftable potions, and lingering uncraftable potions could rarely be found in the naturally spawning loot barrels.

Brewing

Brewing an uncraftable potion with gunpowder will brew a splash uncraftable potion, and brewing a splash uncraftable potion with dragon's breath will brew a lingering uncraftable potion. None of these potions have any effect, however, a lingering uncraftable potion can be used to craft an uncraftable tipped arrow.

Bottle of Void

This feature requires the usage of April Fools' versions, often requiring file renaming or file deletion to load. See the help page for information on loading these versions.

In the April Fools version 23w13a_or_b, drinking a bottle of void while the player has a status effect will remove a status effect from the player, and replace the bottle of void with an uncraftable potion with an effect of the same type, amplifier, duration, particle visibility, and icon visibility of the removed effect. This can lead to obtaining potions with ∞ duration or other unique durations, as ∞ duration effects can be applied to players as a result of rule changes, and one can simply let the timer of a normally-applied effect decrement until it reaches the desired duration.
