A dictionary for jargon/abbreviations found in the discontinued community. Does not cover terms directly in other articles

• AF: April Fools'
• AFB: initialism for Any Falling Block
• Ahsdiufgauweoutnqa: Water over a Soul Sand that doesn't have a Bubble Column. Named this because when it was being named, bluecrab2 said the discoverer can name the feature, clarifying that "if you call it ahsdiufgauweoutnqa it probably won't stick". As a result, it has become the joke name for this feature.
• Alpha ___: an informal way of declaring an IDV item. Originates from alpha leaves and was carried as a misnomer to alpha slabs.
• Anvil (File Format): The file format used in Minecraft in all versions 12w07a (1.2 snapshot) and later, the first to save biomes.
• B Creative: an overpowered glitch in 11w49a that allowed the player to enter creative temporarily
• Bedrock Breaking: A generalization of destroying unbreakable blocks in survival mode, named after Bedrock, the most desirable to break.
• Betacraft: a useful launcher for playing all versions 1.5.2 and earlier
• Block 36 refers to moving piston block as it used to have id 36.
• Bounty: A theoretically possible Discontinued Feature that is highly wanted and officially set as a target of testing in the wiki Discord.
• BRB: initialism for block replacement bypass, not to be confused with brb (be right back)
• Bugrock: Nickname for the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, derived from Bedrock Edition's tendency to break in strange ways.
• b1.6tb3: shortening of Beta 1.6 Test Build 3
• Chest Spawner: Spawner block with chest data.
• Cool Trik: bug, phrase used by Rays Works when referring to fun or useful bugs.
• Cool Trik Mann: a joke name to youtuber Rays Works, combination of Cool Mann and cool trik (see above), as Rays Works likes to use that phrase.
• CWC: initialism for the cross world commands
• DF: initialism for discontinued features
• DV: Data Value
• Downgrader: player who allows downgrade discontinued features
• Duplicate Bug: bug on Mojira that is just duplicating another already reported bug, sometimes bring more insight
• Exploiter: term for a player who plays a discontinued features world
• FDF: Future Discontinued Feature, refers to a feature that as of the current version is not discontinued, but is expected to become discontinued.
• Fixed Bug: bug on Mojira that is verified to be fixed in the game
• Forced level.dat Generation: Java Edition:World Save Insertion
• Happiness machine: a joke name to a brute force method involving repeating command blocks that continuously kill any entity that does not have the discontinued NBT sought after
• IDV: initialism for Invalid Data Value, used often in front of the item/block obtained with it, for example, IDV dirt for invalid data value dirt
• Infinite Item: misnomer for 0 and negative count items that can be brought to the negatives to make the illusion of an infinite item but in reality after -128 the count under flows to 127 making it more like a 255 stack.
• Inf Item: short for the misnomer Infinite Item
• InterWorld Redstone: rare synonym for cross world commands, used in a Tamtam video
• Invalid Bug: Mojira bug is thrown out for one of many reasons including foreign language, not enough details, or using mods. For discontinued purposes awaiting response, incomplete, and cannot reproduce are often lumped into this category.
• Jira: the official bug tracker used by Mojang
• MCDF: initialism for Minecraft Discontinued Features
• McRegion (MCR): File format that replaced Alpha File Format. Used from Beta 1.3 to 12w06a (1.2 snapshot) when it was replaced with Anvil File Format. Known for greatly reducing the number of files in a world folder making copying backups much easier.
• MCW: abbreviation for Minecraft Wiki, the wiki for general Minecraft info
• Missing Texture: the infamous square or cube texture with purple and black checkers, there have been other minor missing textures (See texture history on the locked chest page)
• MMC: abbreviation for MultiMC, a popular launcher among the discontinued feature community due to it creating a separate instance for each version to minimize corruption.
• Mojank: joke term for when Mojang makes a critical and/or obvious bug, we love these bugs though so please keep them!
• Mojira: the Jira official bug tracker used by Mojang with the "Mo" prefix from Mojang attached
• Multiworld: A name sometimes given to the McRegion backup of a world when updating to Anvil File Format. This backup can be downgraded to bring it back.
• NBTExplorer: a program used to check the NBT structure of MC save files
• Negative XP: a highly desired feature of an XP orb with a negative amount, these can exist and would allow negative durability on any equipment due to mending but no know method exists to obtain this.
• Nested Shulker: a highly desired feature of a shulker box inside another shulker box, no know method exists to obtain this in Java Edition.
• obaat: 22w13oneBlockAtATime
• ofbaat: initialism for oneFallingBlockAtATime, the name for falling blocks obtained in 22w13oneBlockAtATime as to differentiate it from Any Falling Block
• Neg: short for negative items, sometimes used for negative durability
• PDV: Potentially Dangerous Versions
• PDVT: Preserved Data Value Transmutation
• Polyworld: A technique for Classic and Indev that involves appending new worlds together to create a larger world for new terrain. Often considered cheating due to the use of external programs.
• Pre-1.8 Villager: villager from 12w21a (1.3 snapshot) to 1.7.10
• Pre-1.14 Villager: villager from 14w02a (1.8 snapshot) to 19w09a (1.14 snapshot)
• Private Bug: a bug that results in a serious problem such as general item duplication and regular bug trackers cannot view
• Prot: abbreviation for Protection
• Savescumming: Loading backups until you get the desired result or whenever a minor setback happens, considered cheating by some. Example uses are getting desired enchants or villager trades.
• Sign Spawner: Spawner block with sign data.
• Six Sided Log: the name given to bark before its formal addition in 1.13
• Seamless Double Stone Slab: the name given to smooth stone before its formal addition in 1.13
• Seamless Double Sandstone Slab: the name given to smooth sandstone before its formal addition in 1.13, also used to differentiate it from cut sandstone that was called smooth sandstone itself at the time
• Snap: Snapshot, a development version of Minecraft, usually released every Wednesday.
• Spawner Chest: Chest block with spawner data.
• Structure Block Chest Chest block with structure block data.
• TB3: Beta 1.6 Test Build 3
• Unenchanted Book: synonym for blank enchanted book
• Unobtainable: synonym for Discontinued Feature, could be considered a misnomer because discontinued features are by definition obtainable just not in the most present version
• Unobtained: adjective for Discontinued Feature worlds, in reference to PuffingFishHQ's series of the same title.
• Unresolved Bug: bug in Mojira that has not been closed and either still affects the game or is waiting for review
• US: short for update suppresion, rare due to confusion over the country
• Useless NBT: unobservable NBT on item, mob, or block
• version-1: the first variant of a version uploaded by Mojang. Because the Mojang name remained identical the -1 is community added to the first upload -2 to the second and so on. Also sometimes denoted with parentheses after the version saying (pre-reupload), (reupload), (2nd reupload),...
• Version Path': A list of interesting versions a player creates that is a guide to update through.
• WAI: initialism for Works as Intended on Mojira
• Works as Intended Bug: Bug on Mojira that was marked as a feature
• Water Update Suppression: archaic form of block replacement bypass.
• WIP: acronym for Work in Progress
• WMEDA: acronym for Wiki Marathon Extravaganza Day of Awesomeness, a monthly event held for editing this discontinued feature wiki. Sometimes jokingly referred to as "We May Eventually Do Anything" in reference to past low turn outs and frequent off-topic tangents for the monthly event.
• Won't Fix Bug: a rare resolution in Mojira where Mojang agrees it is a bug, but declares they aren't going to fix it
• WSI: initialism for world save insertion.
• xxw49a: a superstitious pattern that every 49th-week snapshot will result in a crazy discontinued feature. 11w49a = B Creative, 12w49a = Java Edition:Any Enchant on Any Item, 15w49a = fixing Java Edition:Ender Dragon in Boat but due to the lack of recent discontinued features some have resorted to other patterns like the first number must be divisible by each of its digits in order for it to occur. Somewhat disproven by 20w49a's lack of discontinued features.
• 20w14~, 20w14inf, or 20w14infinite: alternatives to 20w14∞, often used because the Infinity symbol is not on the keyboard
