Java Edition:Phantom Enchantment Equipment Trade
Due to a bug, armor enchanted in 13w36a would not receive enchantments[1], which also applied to villagers trades. Updating the villager to 24w09a (1.20.5 snapshot) through 24w13a (1.20.5 snapshot) will remove the phantom enchantment on the sell item but will still be discontinued since now the output has no item at all. To avoid the item getting deleted, you should update to 24w14a.
Obtaining
This trade can be obtained simply by trading with a cleric until a trade for enchanted gear is unlocked. The trade will be a piece of equipment and a certain amount of emeralds (see pre-1.8 villager for full prices) for the same piece of equipment enchanted. However, instead of actual enchantments on the item, the "ench[]" tag will be empty. The item will have a glint until 1.11-pre1, where it will lose its glint, however it will still have the empty enchant tag. If the world is reloaded the second buy slot will also be removed, leading to villagers that also phantom enchant items for free, see second buy slot removed villager.
