Java Edition:Invalid Dimension Mob
Before 12w34a (1.4 snapshot), no mobs could teleport through portals, except the player. This meant that only certain mobs could exist in each dimension. Several discontinued methods allowed for mobs that were not supposed to exist in the Overworld, the End, or the Nether to be spawned in those dimensions. All mobs except for the Ender Dragon are now recontinued because they can now go through portals. Stacked mobs could not travel through portals until 1.21 Pre-Release 1 because of a bug and so features such as Skeleton Spider Jockey in The Nether/End remained discontinued for longer.[1]
Obtaining
Spawn Egg
In 11w49a (1.1 snapshot), you could obtain spawn eggs by simply pressing B to enter creative mode (some consider this cheating). With these spawn eggs, you can simply summon the available mobs in any dimension you want. Mobs added after 1.1 cannot be spawned, these are the ocelots and iron golems, however, iron golems can be spawned using 4 iron blocks and a pumpkin.
Spawner
Spawner items are obtainable in many version spans before 12w34a, including before the nether or end was added. Placing a spawner defaults to a pig spawner. Normally, pigs could only exist in the overworld because that is where they spawn but the pig spawners could create them in the end or nether. The pig spawner requires grass block and a high light level to spawn the pigs. Transporting the grass block to another dimension requires the grass block item, which was discontinued before Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4.
Monster Egg
Monster egg items (now Infested Blocks) are a discontinued item that could transport silverfish to other dimensions. Silverfish normally could only exist in the overworld but could be transported to the end or nether by placing the monster egg in the dimension and breaking it.
Ender Dragon in Invalid Dimension
In much later versions, the Ender Dragon can be obtained outside of the end using several methods. This is also a mob in an invalid dimension but subject of a separate article since they have never been intended to go through portals.
Available Mobs in Dimensions Before 12w34a
These are all the mobs possible in each dimension through the version spans. The overworld and Nether version spans begin in Alpha v1.2.0, which added the Nether, because before there was only the overworld dimension. The end version spans begin in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4, which added The End. All version spans end in 12w32a, the last version before mobs could travel through portals.
