Terrain Discontinued Feature
This page covers a terrain discontinued feature. What makes these features discontinued are the required conditions that have to be met for this discontinued feature to be obtained.

Every world generates structures randomly based on the seed. If the seed is the same, the structures should be the same. However, though the use of older versions and bugs, it was possible for structures not to match the world seed.

Addition of Structures

Gear.gif
This section is a work in progress.
Please help in the creation of this article by expanding or improving it.
To do: Add the rest of the new additions of structures. This might also benefit from the use of a table to document the structures.

Every time a new structure is added to the game, the seed will determine where it will spawn. If a world existed before then, the loaded chunks where a certain structure was supposed to generate will not spawn the structure.

Addition of Dungeons

To test: Does this work in Infdev?

In Infdev 20100625-2, dungeons were added to the game. If a world existed before then, chunks which dungeons are usually supposed to generate in will not contain them.

Warning: April Fools'
This feature requires April Fools' versions which may require file renaming or file deletion to load. See the Loading April Fools' Versions tutorial for more information.

In april fools' snapshot 24w14potato, a joke structure called the ruined portatol was added to the game. It was built up of many different types of potato blocks, which were also exclusive the the joke snapshot. If a world containing this structure is upgraded or downgraded, all of the potato blocks will be deleted[1], but the chest and its loot table will remain, proving that this structure once existed. Unfortunately, the loot table of this chest is semi-observable, because looking inside the chest will show that it contains items that other loot tables do not spawn. After opening the chest, the loot table is destroyed, destroying the discontinued aspect of the chest.

Deletion of Structures

Temporary Deletion of Ancient Cities

In 22w11a (1.19 snapshot), the ancient city structure added in the previous snapshot, Deep Dark Experimental Snapshot 1, was temporarily disabled from generating, thus making them and their loot tables discontinued from 22w11a to 22w12a (1.19 snapshot). Ancient cities started generating again in 22w13a (1.19 snapshot) with a few changes to the structure, making this a recontinued feature. The deletion of this structure is most likely intentional.[2]

Jungle Temple Outside of Jungle

Unknown Element.webp
This information needs testing.
Please help test this information.
To test: Is this effect possible with other structures?

In 14w02a (1.8 snapshot), jungle temples could generate outside the jungle biome, meaning that they could generate inside of other biomes where they can't usually generate. Even though the jungle temples could spawn in other biomes, they would still be near the jungle biome, leading to massive bounding boxes.

Incorrect Spawn Location End Cities

In 18w46a (1.14 snapshot), end cities could spawn in the void and even near the main end island due to a bug.[3]

21w13a End City Changes

In 21w13a (1.17 snapshot), the height of the entire end was unintentionally changed, causing the height of the end to "stretch to abnormal heights".[4] Since the generation of the end cities depends on the surrounding terrain, the end cities will spawn higher than usual, even "[getting] abruptly cut off at the maximum build height".[5]

Provability

Since one can easily replicate most of these structures, there are certain methods to prove that they are discontinued.

Past the World Border

Since these structures started existing after the addition of the world border, it was not possible to rebuild these structures using blocks past the world border.

Loot Tables

Most structures spawn with chests (or other containers) with loot tables. These loot tables cannot be recreated by the player without cheat methods, meaning that they serve as a way to prove the structure's authenticity as a discontinued feature.
