Obtaining
Data Values 2 and 3
To get data values 2 and 3, data value 0 log2s (vertical acacia logs) must be transmuted using the arrow transmutation method. After the logs have been transmuted to data values 2 and 3 they can be collected by simply mining them.
Data Values 4 and 5
In snapshot 14w25a, mining acacia log resulted in dropping log2 with data value of 4, while mining dark oak loge resulted in dropping log2 with data value of 5.[1]
Data Values 8 and 9
From 14w25a to 14w25b (1.8 snapshot), a Silk Touch item can be used to obtain the data values of 8 and 9.[2] A player must first place down an acacia or dark oak log, and then break them using the Silk Touch tool. This would create data value 8 from the acacia log, and data value 9 from the dark oak log.
